A hillside house with good bones and bad circulation: small rooms, a dark core, and a view almost nobody could see from inside.
The brief
Open the main floor to the hillside, add real storage, and build a separate living unit for family staying long-term.
What we did
- Rebuilt the main level as one kitchen–dining–living space with a linear fireplace and a floating, lit staircase.
- Ran a full-height wood cabinet wall and a waterfall island through the kitchen.
- Added a primary suite with a freestanding tub and a stone steam shower.
- Built an attached ADU with its own kitchen, bedroom and bath.
- Extended the living space outdoors: upper deck, covered patio with a fire pit, and a level lawn.
Result
Four bedrooms, five baths and an independent ADU — and from almost every room, the hillside.
